Cuisine Around the World--Traditionally, in other cultures, especially Mediterranean cultures, appetizers, which are called mazeh there, are miniatures of the main courses. Mazeh can even take the place of meals. They consist of fresh herbs, such as dill, mint, and basil, beans such as garbanzo and soy, and grains such as couscous and bulgur. Friends and members of the family sit around a table and help themselves to each mazeh-sharing and enjoying each dish-instead of restricting themselves to one plate.
Parsley Sesame Salad
Easy to make, and just a few ingredients make a nutritious and delicious salad.
Makes 4 - 6 servings
3 bunches parsley, stemmed and washed
2 bunches watercress, stemmed and washed (opt.)
juice of 1 lemon
¼ cup sesame seeds
Salt and pepper, to taste
Drizzle parsley with olive oil and lemon juice. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Season with salt and pepper. Chill.

Healing Topic: Eating Hormonally--Women do need to eat differently from men. Our hormones are different and our livers process food differently from men. As women age, their metabolism changes and they lose estrogen. This is natural. If we eat plants throughout our lives from which we obtain estrogen and progesterone, our bodies will use this natural hormone to balance and supplement our own.
